Valuation of liabilities

Due to its interdisciplinary character and frequent significance to a company’s strategic decisions, the process of valuation of business entities requires broad but in-depth knowledge of finance and economics, and extensive experience not only in the financial market but also mostly in business. 

The value market of liabilities, and particularly of liabilities at risk, is the nominal value due less a discount for the probability of insolvency.

Valuation of doubtful liabilities (liabilities at risk) concerns:

1. Individual liabilities related to transactions or credits and loans,
2. A portfolio of liabilities covering a large number of liabilities of small nominal values towards natural persons and business entities for unpaid bills or bank loans.

Due to the dynamic development of the purchase and sales of liabilities, liabilities at risk are more and more often not only purchased or sold, but also serve as assets used as contributions in-kind or deposits on debt issues. Regardless of the transaction type, all situations requiring the disclosure of the market value of liabilities involve the necessity for their valuation, which means the determination of a discount for the probability of insolvency.
