Snooker and business – at first glance, two different worlds. Yet, they share something more than just competition. Both value precision, strategic thinking, and resilience under pressure. Marcin Nitschke – a snooker champion who has proven for years that patience and cool calculation lead to victory – now brings these values to business as a PKF Polska ambassador. In our conversation, he reveals how sport teaches responsibility, why one millimeter at the snooker table is like a single clause in a contract, and how playing together with PKF opens a completely new perspective.
1. Marcin, congratulations! What emotions did you experience when the idea of becoming a PKF Polska ambassador came up?
It was a mix of pride, joy, and positive surprise. Because when an athlete is invited to work with a consulting firm as renowned as PKF Polska, it means that the values they represent on the table are also noticeable off it. I thought: "This could be more than just a collaboration – this could be a shared journey."
2. Snooker is a game of precision and strategy. Do you think the values of this sport can be translated into the business world?
Absolutely. Snooker is about patience, analysis, and planning several moves ahead – just like in business. Every decision has consequences. Improvisation is impossible in snooker, and the same goes for serious consulting. It's all about precision and responsibility.
3. Who is better to talk to – an opponent at the table or a client at the negotiating table?
(laughter) That depends on whether I'm on match day! But seriously – conversations at the snooker table can be very quiet and tense. In negotiations, there's more room for words, but the tension… can be similar. It's best to talk to people who know why they're at the table.
4. PKF Polska is a consulting firm with over 30 years of history. What do you think connects them with a snooker champion?
PKF Polska and snooker have more in common than it seems at first glance. Both sides operate in an environment where precision, strategy, and flawless calculation are essential. A snooker champion doesn't pot balls haphazardly—every move is the result of cool analysis, a sense of risk, and planning several steps ahead. A good consulting firm operates in exactly the same way. For 30 years, PKF Polska has been planning, analyzing, and advising clients in ways that not only solve current problems but also position their businesses for long-term success—like a player who thinks not just about the next pot, but about the entire break. Both sides are also characterized by iron discipline, focus, and mental resilience. There is no room for chaos and improvisation in either consulting or at the snooker table. Composure and the ability to calculate coolly under pressure are key. But most importantly, we share a passion for excellence. Like PKF, I have been honing my craft for years, constantly learning, developing, and adapting to new challenges. Because championship isn't a title. It's a lifestyle.
5. As a PKF ambassador, do you want to engage solely in image-building activities, or are you planning something more – joint initiatives, education, social projects?
Image is just the beginning. I want our collaboration to have an impact. Education – both in sports and business – is very close to my heart. We are discussing joint projects that will show young people that fair play, strategy, and responsibility are not just buzzwords, but real competencies, both in sports and in life.
6. What does responsibility mean to you – in sports, at work, and in everyday life?
Responsibility, for me, is an awareness of consequences, of the fact that my decisions affect others – not just the outcome of the match, but also the people who trust me. This word guides me through all areas of life, because you always have to be responsible, not just when someone is watching.
7. Professional sports are enormous pressure. How do you cope with it – and do you see similar pressure in your work with companies?
Pressure is part of the game – literally and figuratively. Over time, I've learned that preparation is the most rewarding. The more work I do before a match, the less stress I experience during it. And I see the same in the work of companies – those who act strategically don't panic in a crisis. Pressure doesn't disappear, but it can be tamed.
8. They say snooker is a gentleman's game. What do you think defines class – in sports and in business?
Class is respect – for yourself, for your opponent, and for the rules. It's the ability to win with humility and lose with dignity. And the same applies to business. Class doesn't need shouting – it's evident in your behavior, communication style, and decision-making. It's something that takes years to build.
9. What are you most looking forward to in this collaboration with PKF Polska? What excites you most?
I look forward to shared stories – for moments when sport and business truly intertwine. I like actions with meaning, those that leave a mark. And I have a feeling that this is exactly what our joint projects with PKF will be like.
10. And finally: what one piece of snooker advice would you give to an entrepreneur before an important decision?
Pause for a moment before you hit. Think about what might happen after your move. In snooker, it's not just what you hit, but also what you leave for your opponent. In business, it's what you leave behind. Make decisions thoughtfully and with a vision several steps ahead.
